Green Cactus Mexican Grill

UPDATE! 08/22/26: We made it to the last Green Cactus location. It was a hike for us but we planned it and made this trip all the way out to Stony Brook and once again, it was WORTH IT. We've now been to four different Green Cactus locations and this one is probably the best. It's also the last one that stands. What we think happened was that the franchisee took over and turned it into its own free-standing location now that the company (as far as we're aware) doesn't exist anymore. BUT! I'm so glad we made the trip out because it was in every way just as scrumpsh as it always is. I got my usual quesadilla with an asada taco. It's pretty late writing this, so I'm going to come back to it at some point. For now, check out the pictures.

This is one of those special Cracks in Reality. At least for me.

Green Cactus Mexican Grill was a Mexican food chain that to my knowledge only existed on Long Island. It wasn't anything that would stand out in a crowd, but it fed my family on multiple occasions and quickly became my favorite Mexican food place. When our usual location closed, that was a dark day. A handful of others were still around, but they were some distance away. Eventually, we decided to go for a drive way out of our way just to buy Mexican food and then drive all the way back home. But it was WORTH IT. Their quesadillas never miss.

While we were waiting in the restaurant, I had this sinking suspicion that this location's days were numbered. This suspicion would ultimately become reality a few weeks later when we tried to order from them again only to be met with a busy line tone on the other end of the phone. Now, I don't think I can accurately describe what this feeling is like to you through the computer monitor. But it's not a good one. There is...one location left. Just one. And it's over an hour drive away. I haven't been able to convince anyone to accompany me on my pilgrimage to this dated but very lovely Mexican food place, so I may have to make this journey alone. Am I hyping this up too much? Maybe. But there is no clear date as to when this place is gonna go under and then THAT'S IT! I need one more meal there.

I'm keeping my eye on it and if I miss it I'm going to be very sad. At the very least, I have some documentation of the Rockville Centre location. I took some pictures of the dining area inside, and some of the awning outside. I didn't get any pics of our food (dammit) but it was really good.
