The Format - October 1st, 2025
Kicking off October I saw The Format play at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. This is Nate Ruess's band before he formed Fun and they rock! I hadn't listened to their albums until my friend informed me of them. We caught their second night show and it was a blast. The performances were wild, Nate's singing is great as ever, and the energy was just...dare I say...fun. What made these shows special was that outside of one show in 2020, this was the first time the band had played live since 2007. Yup, these were sold-out shows. We had pretty good seats for what I was able to manage buying second hand. I enjoyed all their songs, especially the kick-ass opener of If Work Permits.
The one song of theirs that really resonated with me was one of two brand new songs they were debuing on this small tour. It's called Holy Roller and it's the first single off their upcoming 2026 album, Boycott Heaven. I can't wait for it! I pre-ordered the CD and everything. The new song sounds great, very catchy. I had the single on repeat after it came out. They performed Holy Roller live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon which I tried my hardest to stay up for and watch. Getting older sucks. I tried to power through Taylor Swift talking about her...new album?! Didn't she just release one like last year? Anyway, it got too late and I fell asleep. I did watch it online before I went to work and it was great. Show kicked ass, new music hype...yeah. :)
